In the spring of 2007 a group of 200 of the world’s leading environmental scientists issued a declaration warning that exposure to common chemicals makes babies more likely to develop a wide range of serious health problems later in life including diabetes, attention deficit disorders, prostate cancer, fertility problems, thyroid disorders and even obesity.
These scientists hail from countries all over the world and further solidify a growing body of evidence that proves that babies and young children are vulnerable to the effects of the thousands of commonly used chemicals.
Are you willing to wait? What is in your baby’s air, water, food and commonly used products?
Consider these facts:
80 percent of major chemicals used today have never been tested to see if they affect early infant development.
Scientists are now particularly concerned with research that suggests that chemical exposure can affect genes that predispose people to disease. These affects may be permanent, even putting subsequent generations at greater risk of developing various diseases.
Among the risky chemicals scientists have named is bisphenol A, found in many baby products including polycarbonate baby bottles, sippy cups, plastic food containers as well as numerous other “everyday” products like cans, which hold food and baby formula.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has found that the chemicals found in common household cleaning products (often dispersed in fumes which can be easily inhaled) are three times more likely to cause cancer than are other air pollutants.
